Loads of fun yesterday, played 'Captains Cabin' wth low ability year 8 on food constituents as a starter and again as a plenary. I stand in the middle calling out the names of different foods - pupils run (safely but fast) to the appropriate part of the room/a corner for the main constituent of the food (protein, water, carbohydrate etc) Really brought the energy levels up on a long afternoon

I teach Food and digestion using Boiled potato, plastic bag, toothpaste and shoe. Hit potato in bag with shoe to demonstrate chewing, talk briefly about peristalsis squeezing a toothpaste tube, add some liquid to the bag to demonstrate gastric juices. Then talk about absorbtion of food before egestion into the bin.
